Cameron Highlands (Part 2)

Day two – Breakfast was at a mamak restaurant at Tanah Rata.

After breakfast, we drove to Cameron Valley Tea Plantation. It is just a few minutes drive from Tringkap town (heading towards Kg. Raja from Tanah Rata). Nice place to stop by for a cup of hot tea.





After taking some photos, we went to my uncle’s house in Tringkap. I have not been to his house since school days. Reckon that it won’t be difficult to find since I went there many, many times moons ago and they have rebuilt their house to a three storey building (from a two storey wooden house and his neighbours either 2 storeys or single storey house).


Yes, I was right…found the house. My uncle, wife & their daughter and grandchildren were all at home. He then took us Rose Valley. It was nearby, so we walked there. Entrance was free for us, just a 'hi' greet by uncle to the person inside the counter. I must say… that place is awesome. I’ll recommend to anyone who plan to visit Cameron Highlands. Rows of rose plants, with different colour flowers. Each flower smells good, brings out a sweet fragrance. There are other types of flowers and cactus. You’ll find gigantic cactus grown there. Hibiscus also bigger here. Other than that, you’ll find also fruit trees like apple, orange, persimmon and grapes. There is also a row of tomato trees.



Our next stop was at The Boh Sg Palas Tea Centre. The turning from main road is somewhere in between Tringkap and Kea Farm. Beware! Road leading to Boh is extremely narrow and very stressful to the driver (and me). Looking around you’ll see hills of tea bush plants. There is quite a big parking area. There are two ways up. You can follow the road or use the tea bush walk to the Tea Centre. At Tea Centre you’ll be able enjoy the beautiful scenery and have a cup of Boh tea in a relaxing atmosphere.



But first we visited the factory. It is a very modern and small factory, with glass partition. Mainly for visitors viewing only. Can’t even smell the tea fragrance at all. To get that tea smell we had to have tea there! Ordered the original hot tea but was ran out of stock. So we have to drink teacino instead. Also bought some sandwiches which were yummy and seems healthy (a lot of vege) but quite expensive.



In the evening we drove around Tanah Rata. We were supposed to go to the park at Tanah Rata but it was raining and very wet. Then hubby drove us to The Smokehouse for a while. We managed to take some shots here before rain started again. Can’t afford dinner here. So we went back to one the restaurants at Tanah Rata to have dinner.




After dinner we just relax in the hotel and waited for the live badminton finals between Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan. Sadly Lee didn’t win but he did us proud to get a medal for Malaysia in the recent Olympics.

Hubby came up with an idea for the kids to play ‘football’! (See photo below)




End of day two in Cameron Highlands.

Day three – After breakfast (cup mee and drinks), and packing, we check out from hotel and make our way back to Ipoh. I needed a cup of hot drink so we stopped by Cameron Valley again. We ordered donuts, curry puffs, sandwiches and strawberry cake and a medium pot of tea (4 cups). Food - yummy, Tea - great, Price – reasonable.

It was raining throughout the whole journey down hill. The kids were sound asleep. I was half asleep and was trying hard to keep my eyes open. Extra pair of eyes on the road. We made it safe and sound to Simpang Pulai. Then sent my godsis to Clearwater Sanctuary for Pastor’s Wife Retreat (Methodist).



Overall, it was a very good trip, fun and relaxing holiday. Look forward to go to Cameron Highlands again, escape from our hot weather here and enjoy the cool air there.

Cameron Highlands (Part 1)

August 2008 – school holidays

On the very first day of 3rd term school holidays, my family and I drove to Ipoh to pick up my godsis and her son. Then we headed up to Cameron Highlands via Simpang Pulai route. The last visit was 4 years ago. There was still some construction going on then and not many sign boards. In fact there was no sign turning into Cameron Highlands from Simpang Pulai. I had to call my brother for directions.

Well, this trip, the sign is up and road is ready. It was a scenic and pleasant journey up the mountain. My kids and nephew were very excited. Asking questions after questions. Then my godsis brought out a game that requires to ask questions and guessing. That kept them entertained for a while till we reach Kg Raja. Then back to sight seeing questions again. Kids! The journey took about 1 1/2 hours from Simpang Pulai to Heritage Hotel.

Shortly after checking into our rooms in Heritage Hotel, Tanah Rata, the kids were jumping on bed and with full of excitement. My hubby didn’t really rest like what he normally does after long hours of driving. He also full of energy, probably influenced by the kids. So we headed to the tourist places.

First stop was butterfly farm at Brinchang. There were two farms side by side. We just went to the one nearest to where we park which is the left side of the two farms. Not many butterflies and probably has very few species cause I only see one major colony which is the Raja Brooke species. We also saw some snakes and insects in their cages. My last trip, we went to the other farm which I think was better.

Then we headed to Cactus Point, quite a big area and the plants are orderly placed. The path in between the rows of plants is also quite wide. Many different types of cactus can be found here. They also sell potted flowers and leave plants.

Next we went to Kea Farm. Had fresh potato chips at Potato King and bought some corns. We did stop by Time Tunnel, a museum near Kea Farm, but didn’t enter because it was already six in the evening and entrance fee per adult was RM5 and children RM3. Then we had dinner at Brinchang town. The weather that day was raining on and off, and quite cold.

Above picture is the Brinchang Pasar Malam (night market). Opens daily. Since it was raining, we didn't go and just went back to hotel. We went to bed around 10 pm and that concluded our day 1 in Cameron Highlands.
