Just realised I've lost 3 kgs since the last post on 27/4/09. That makes a total of 10 kgs in 8 months and 16 days.
Another achievement (so call), I managed to run 5 km in 32 minutes. I was very motivated when hubby completed his 5 km. Last week I couldn't finish 4 km. So went to try out yesterday evening (weather was cooling after rain) at the park behind my house. At that time I could go on running but don't want to miss American Idol Finale. So ran home instead.
What made me started to run was an event going to be held in October 2009, 'Run For The Nation' organised by NECF. My gym buddy participated last year and was encouraging me to join this year. I thought it was quite impossible for me to run 5km then.
Now that the goal set when I first join gym is met. Next I'm going to work on reducing the BFA (Body Fat Analysis) percentage and lose more weight, through healthy eating and exercise of course.
It is very, very difficult to maintain a low calories diet. Currrently, on a daily basis, I take in about 1000 to 1200 calories and burn 300 - 600 calories exercising. Me no expert here. Just a rough calculation. Since I'm losing weight (slow and steady), so I guess the theory works. For me if I need to just maintain weight and still work out, I can take up to 1700 calories.
A lot of figures here! Anyway bottom line 'what goes in must go out'. In the long run, I hope to live a balance lifestyle, eat a balance diet and exercise at least 5 times a week. At the mean time, I'm going to work out more, trying different exercises and routine. Next goal should be met in 3 months time. Hopefully.

Another 2 kg down
Since I started going to gym, I have lost 7 kg in weight. That is 1 kg per month on average.
About 5 years ago, I was lighter than now. However, I feel that my size is actually smaller than I was 5 years ago. I suppose exercise works in reducing the total body fatness and especially mine - stubborn fat.
One lesson that I learned in effective reducing weight and maintain the loss is a change of lifestyle. Eat right and consistent doing exercise. There are many, many ways we can find out on how to eat right and how much our body needs. The problem is we are surrounded by good and yummy food all the time especially in Malaysia. Dare not even go into the topic of calories about all these food.
Another lesson is slow and steady wins the race. Set a reasonable goal and be consistent in exercising and diet. I believe not only we can reduce weight but also eat more healthier. Better for our health too. Slimming and going on diet only works for short term if our mind set and lifestyle don't change.
You know, it feels really good after a workout. Better than the magic of chocolate and ice cream. So, what are you waiting for. Pick up you sports shoes and start exercising now!

Why need to work out?
Guess what I had for dinner on Friday (after the previous post “Join Gym”)?

Fried spaghetti, roast drumstick and cauliflower and carrot
This is why I gain weight year after year! Especially after a trip back to Ipoh or after meals of durians. At least 2 kg gained. The weighing scale is probably spoilt, as I hope it would be. I seldom eat high carbo food, only once or twice a week. Still gain weight. Sigh! What to do, I love to eat and snack.
After 4 years stepping out of the working world and taking a new role of being a stay-at-home-mum, my weight soar by 10kg up. That is 2.5kg per year in average. That is more than double of what a regular person would gain per year. Alarming right? If the situation goes on, then I’ll probably turn from overweight to obese. What more alarming was my age is catching up and health probably will deteriorate as I grow older.
As I was reading this article yesterday, boy, I’m glad that I finally responded to the wake up call. Just hoping I will stay discipline and watchful of my diet.
For the past six months of going to gym, my lifestyle has somewhat changed. First I missed the quiet mornings of relaxing and reading (sometimes watch tv). Then at the initial stage, I came back very tired and sleepy like I have gone hiking the whole day. Not to mention muscle ache everywhere. Now that I’ve got used to the changes, I still have to motivate myself to go and complete the PT sessions. Having a hubby who faithfully goes to gym 4 times a week really motivates me.
Another discovery.... At first I had problem losing the Chinese New Year weight gained (of 3kg). Then my PT trainer said that we must count our calories intake. If we keep eating and exercising with almost the same calories in and burn, then we just maintain the weight. If we are able to work out much more than what we eat, then only we can burn the fat in out body. Well, the theory is nothing new. So I tried it for 2 weeks and guess what, I really lost weight.
Oh ya! Good news! I’m going for a holiday with my family to Bandung, Indonesia. Bad news….fine dining there is much cheaper than here. Come back gotto put extra effort in working out....again.

Join Gym
Latest update of myself...I have been exercising! Joined a gym (for ladies only) nearby my place 6 months ago. I have been regularly to the gym at least 3 times a week except when I go outstation.
For the first 12 sessions, I had been trained by 4 different instructors (they kept changing instructors), nothing much changes I saw in myself. Quite disappointing. Then came this very qualified instructor, who trains other trainers in Klang Valley. He is really good. For the next 20 sessions under his close personal training, I finally lost weight and some cm off from waist. But he had other assignments and left the gym. Sigh!
I thought I lost hope there but then another trainer came. So far so good. He teaches kick-boxing. Previously I signed up for 8 Personal Training (PT) sessions per month. When the previous trainer left, I changed the PT sessions to 4 times a month.
Now, for 3 times a week in gym, twice is cardio (35 to 40 minutes) and one PT session which also include 20 minutes cardio and 1 hour circuit training either upper body or lower body.
Results…drum roll….6 months, 3 times a week………lost 5 kg and 10 cm waistline. Happy? Yes! Finally lost some weights after 4 years of gaining only. However, still lots more to shed cause I’m still overweight according to the BMI charts.
Goal for the next 6 months is to lose another 5 kg. (BMI will show normal then). If I can achieve 8 kg for the next 6 months then I’ll be back to the weight before first pregnancy. Wow, for the past 10 years, how much weight I gained in my two pregnancies and also after stop working!!!
Sorry my shepherd group members…I have not been baking much lately. Now you know why. Can’t afford the calories and got to make time if I need to bake. Shang and PN…great to know you are interested in baking now. Probably Ann can also bake for our SG since you bought your oven already.
